According to Forbes' List the number of billionaires climbed to 1,210, setting a record with combined wealth of $4.5 trillion, up from $3.6 trillion a year ago. The biggest chunk of that wealth, $1.5 trillion, is controlled by people in the U.S.
This information raises the question, "If there is so much wealth in America, why are there so many homeless people too?" Most people would respond that America is a capitalist society and that people have the freedom to make or not make as much money as they can. Unfortunately that response overlooks the fact that some Americans are given way more opportunities while others cannot get out of the unfavorable financial situation they were born into. The people in the $1.5 trillion group could really make a huge difference if only they gave a percent of their wads of cash to the homeless.
